Yes! A 3D mammogram (also called tomosynthesis) still uses compression, and takes images from a few different angles to generate a so-called “3D” image. The Painless Mammogram uses a computed tomography machine to obtain a true three dimensional image of the breast without the need for compression by spinning the detector completely around the entire breast. Think about it like looking at a slice of pie (3D mammogram or tomosynthesis) vs the entire pie (computed tomography, Koning vera).

No, The Painless Mammogram uses the same amount of radiation as a traditional compression mammogram.

Most guidelines recommend yearly breast imaging for women beginning at age 40. For women at increased risk of breast cancer, talk to your doctor about your individual risk.

Absolutely. The Painless Mammogram is a great way to image breast implants because there is no compression and therefore no risk of implant rupture. Additionally, a traditional mammogram requires routine images in addition to implant push-back views, which doubles the radiation dose. With The Painless Mammogram, we are able to produce better images with half the radiation dose of a traditional mammogram.
